America may be broke, bankrupt and suffering through economic calamity but that won't stop Congress Critters from spending money we don't even have.

The Business Insider has been following defense spending.

While everyone is talking about politics and weather, the Pentagon stayed busy with a huge week of defense spending.

Washington spent $24.5 billion over five days on defense contracts. And we thought the $9.2 billion spent the week before was a big deal.

We found the most interesting contracts of the 501 inked last week to see where the money went.

America ... enjoy your latest purchases:

$5.6 Billion for intelligence analysis...

$2.9 Billion for airlifts...

$2.8 Billion for almost a thousand helicopters...

$922 million for rocket science...
Americans may be struggling to put food on the table to feed their families but defense contractors are partying like there is no tomorrow.  They have reasons to celebrate.

Yes, America really does spend over 50% of all tax receipts on wars

Americans and taxable entities are currently paying about $2.2 trillion a year in federal taxes. It's been recently reported that 56 cents out of every tax dollar collected goes to the military and the wars, here.
Last year we taxpayers were charged 56 cents of every dollar we sent to Uncle Sam for military spending.
CNN recently reported that the cost to maintain one US soldier is between $850,000 and $1,400,000 a year (and rising), here.
Keeping one American service member in Afghanistan costs between $850,000 and $1.4 million a year, depending on who you ask. But one matter is clear, that cost is going up.
What's it going to take to get Americans to accept that we can't afford the military empire stretched around the planet with its 900 military bases?
